Summer 2010
This summer Central Stage will be working on two projects:
- Antigone by
Sophocles.
The classic tale takes on the theme of pitting the laws of man against the divine. As the children of
Oedipus try to make their way toward respect and retribution, they clash with the edicts of the king. Despite many warnings,
the king pursues his vengeance at all costs, resulting in a tragic end for both families. Our current plan is to
put this piece on outdoors, at a park within Worcester, Massachusetts, show running each night August 19th to 22nd.
We will be putting together a co-ed a cappella group. Tentative songs include
Owl City, Sara Bareilles, John Mayer, and Jay Sean - among others. Performances for this group will run through the month of
August, check back here for exact dates and locations as the month approaches.
Central Stage
Central Stage is a non-profit community arts organization
located in central Massachusetts. Each summer Central Stage hosts a diverse group of arts events,
with three goals in mind:
- To bridge the gaps between high school, collegiate, and post-collegiate
arts involvement, fostering cooperation and mentor-like relationships between individuals
of different levels who are passionate about the arts.
- To provide diverse artistic programming that is readily available
to the community at large through both financial and geographical accessibility.
- To continually push and challenge the talents of all participants and staff so as to engender
the development of those involved and to generate the highest caliber of programs.
Participation in all Central Stage events is open to any
local student or resident. Each season we work with different educational
institutions as "hosts", performing in their space or utilizing some of their equipment.
All of our shows are open to the public, and many are free.
While some shows are ticketed, one of our main goals is keeping those performances open to the community
as a whole. As such, all of those fees are very low in comparison to similar caliber performances.

The art component of Central Stage is still in the planning stages, with hopes of
seeing a fledgeling program emerge this year. We hope it will consist primarily of
student and amatuer art shows, during available intermissions Antigone and special a cappella shows.
All shows will be intimate in piece count, but wide in audience prospective, and as such offer a high visibility
for any participating artist.
If you would like your work to be considered for display at a Central Stage event next year,
please E-Mail Us with your contact information, and please include
your artistic medium and any available images of your artwork.
If you are an arts educator with student work that you think deserves this kind of
a reception, please also E-Mail Us, with information about yourself, your
school, and the student you would like to present for consideration.
Again, any images and information regarding the
actual pieces
would be greatly helpful in our decision process.
Help will also be needed with set and constume design and
management for theatrical
productions, if you are interested
in helping out in this manner please do not hesitate
to contact us either.

The music component of Central Stage is a
mixed a cappella group that rehearses and performs
throughout the summer months in Worcester County.
Membership is auditioned each season (having already taken place for this year), and is open to any
and all college and high school students or alumni. The next month
will be spent learning music and the last is filled
with full performances all over Worcester County and the southern
New England region.
As we approach August, check back here for an updated events calendar, as we schedule
our performances through the area. If you represent a venue interested in hosting
one of our shows, please E-Mail Us with that interest and some potential
dates.

Theater
The below information regards our 2009 performance of Proof. As the summer progresses,
you can check back here for more information regarding the upcoming performance of Antigone.
In 2009, the theater component of Central Stage took off,
with the production of David Auburn's Proof. Over our two successful shows, we filled the stage at Jumpin' Juice and Java
in Worcester, Massachusetts. Reviews were excellent, along with the performances of all cast members. Key images of the performance
can be found on the panes below, pictures taken by Megan Kellett.
